What motivates you?

Many of us need to really be “moved” to be motivated to change the direction of our lives. For some of us, that could be a devastating event and for others, they are just naturally curious. What gets you going? For me, it is the internal drive to improve myself. If I am unsure how to do something or I am unaware of how to do something, I usually research it and try it. Sometimes, I realize I don’t like whatever task I am doing, but I learned something in the process. If we go day in and day out, eating relatively the same food, falling into a similar pattern for the day, and never really looking to learn something new, then we get bored. I used to think I got bored of the job I was doing and then needed to find a new one. I have since realized, it is not the job, it was my life. I needed to grow my soul and cultivate my skills.  I like to shake things up and throw myself a curve ball. Doing that keeps my brain and my body motivated to do more. I know I need more of nature and becoming one with nature. I used to be so distracted by social media and not paying as much attention to who is real in my life. I am happy things have recently become even more clear. I have to say, life in your 40’s is divine.  What gets you motivated?

Jesus is my refuge…..

Today I am grateful for knowing that there is something bigger and more loving. I am grateful for Jesus. I feel comfort knowing I can seek refuge in him. There are evil things and people in this world. We need to crush the darkness with light. Do not fear. I love the Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death (or through the darkest valley), I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Hold your head up and move forward. There are many out there that will say things that aren’t true, twist the stories in their favor, but you will see their true colors. It all comes out. As they try to destroy you, they destroy themselves. The worst thing a person can do is speak and say untrue things. The tongue is the most powerful weapon and words cannot be unsaid. Filter what you hear and remember, there are always two sides to a coin. I think deeply about all the stories in the tabloids. I feel so bad for celebrities. I got a taste of what that feels like and I have a new appreciation for the other side of the coin. You can’t control what others say and do, but you can control how you react to it.  Remember, let Jesus take the wheel.

The worst thing a person can do is fear the unknown. Every time in my life I have feared or had a sense of holding back because of the unknown, I had to learn to get past it and move forward. What is the worst that can happen? Not moving is the worst! I am watching a fascinating movie about how McDonald’s got started. I read up on it years ago and happened to stumble upon this movie. This movie got me thinking about so many things. If these guys hadn’t had the confidence and motivation to move forward in spite of their difficulties, it would not be the chain it is today. McDonald’s started as one small drive through and now look at it today. The cap if you will on the brother’s ability was a very efficient drive through. They did not have the ability to expand on their own because of their lack of skills. The brother’s did not have the foresight in seeing a larger picture. We need to listen to the words and skills of those who have experience or maybe even just a crazy mind.  We all have special skills and abilities. Some of us are detail oriented, some of us are creative, and some love spreadsheets. There is a strength and a weakness for everyone. The strength a person has is to find their weakness and hire it out. As a team of people with different strengths pull together, they are unstoppable. I truly believe the key is follow through. A vision needs to be turned into a reality. It is not an easy task. You have what it takes to make it happen. Someone told me I should be a millionaire by now by the way I work. I don’t define success by money. I define success as interpersonal success from growing within. I have a lot of growing to do, lessons to learn, and I have realized that I will never be done. There is not a cap on learning. Never stop improving.

Travel! Travel! Travel! Open your mind!

Ever since I was a young child, I have always pictured myself as a world traveler. Sometimes in life, we take a different route and have other priorities that need to get taken care of first. The older I get, the more I realize that I cannot give up on myself. When I was in Dubai a couple weeks ago, I was at a cricket tournament, it was evening and the moon was out. I took the time to observe the moon. What I discovered immediately was that the moon was lit up differently. As I stared at it, I asked a couple of other people if they noticed how the moon was lit up. No one  really noticed it was different. The moon was lit up from the bottom and not from the left side like I see in Minnesota. I was extremely grateful to God for allowing me to see this. I was grateful that at that point in time, I was somewhere far away from where my world resides. My mind was opened with just this little tiny observation of the moon. I have always known that there is so much in this world to discover. The moon lit differently convinced me there is so much to discover and I need to discover and experience so much more than I realize. We are apart of this huge world. Our small impacts we make are colossal to the people we impact. Keep on traveling and discovering. You never know, the person you may impact the most just may be yourself!

Are you a victim?!

I’ve been up all night because where I was it was day. I still haven’t recovered from the traveling time difference. So, anyway, I’m dancing and cleaning listening to up beat music. I keep having these thoughts run through my mind. You are only a victim if you choose to be. No one can take away your strength without you allowing it. Why would you allow someone to bully you through horrible tactics? This can be applied to many areas of life. Stand up! Be brave! Be strong! You got this! There is only strength in hope. The brain is an interesting part of the body. I read through some of my past blogs and it hit me again that I am listening to myself. Say strong and say and think positive things. Think the direction you need to be going in. Don’t look back! Life is full of double edged swords! Only move forward! Here is today’s sunrise picture! Thank you God for letting me see it!!sunrisep

YOU are NOT your circumstances.

We look at others and envy them for what we think their life is like. You just do not know what someone is going through. You have not spent anytime with them in their environment. We live amongst some of the best “Theater of Life” actors and actresses. Some people really appear to have their shit together. Life can feel unfair at times. Sit back and relax. We all have shit we are going through. Life is not easy. You have not just been singled out and dealt a bad hand. You are not your circumstances. Those events and people in your life that made it seem horrible do not define you as a person. You are not what others say you are. I heard a story on FB that was a lesson story. There was a teacher who asked the class to raise their hand if they wanted a $20 bill. All of them raised their hand. She crumpled it up and asked who wants it now. All hands were still up. She put it on the ground and stepped on it. Still everyone wanted it. She asked if it were full of mud, rained on, and torn would you still want it. Everyone of course did. The lesson is, no matter what happens to you. No matter who calls you what, pushes you down, and slanders you, that does not change your worth. Know your worth. The kids in that class knew that the money’s value hadn’t changed even though the outer appearance of the money had. Use the lessons in life to shape you, not define you.

Wanting it doesn’t mean it’s going to happen……

I have had thoughts in my head and ideas of wanting certain things many times. Wanting it doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. Wanting, wishing, and hoping are not going to accomplish your goal. What are you willing to do to make that desire a reality? I have met so many incredibly successful people that were generous enough to engage me in conversations about their struggles before they were successful. I have learned that it truly is a mindset. There were so many times these folks wanted to throw in the towel and just quit. Lots of people around you are going to tell you to quit. Some days you may even feel defeated. It takes a strong mind to block out all of the negative people and move forward. It is incredibly hard to keep solid ground and tell yourself ” I believe in me!” When I have felt this way, my thinking is what the heck do I have to lose by continuing on my path? If I quit, I lose. If I don’t quit and it doesn’t work, I am truly successful because I didn’t give up. Not everything works out. I truly it believe we are all here to help one another somehow. I don’t believe that everyone that comes into your life, is meant to stay in your life and that’s ok! It is seriously ok. Keep moving forward. We are all connected. The lessons we learn in life will help us on to the next step we reach for. Be scared, be sad, be happy, be glad. All will happen in time. Keep your goals in mind. Don’t waver from your morals. Don’t compromise!!! Just don’t! Life is too short to not get what you want.
