Inspiring…….

I get the privilege every day to see most beautiful sunsets. I am always in awe of what God allows me to see. The sheer bright whiteness of the sun tells me God is in charge. I do a sign of the cross every time I see that beautiful light shining through the clouds. It is absolutely magnificent! I look at it and sometimes, I just catch it before it disappears. I interpret it as God shining down on me and letting me know he is there and hears me. I have been so inspired to paint because of these sunsets. So, today in the midst of my errands, I decided to pull out the paint and brushes. I did get frustrated because I could not get the sunset reflection right. It looked incredibly wrong. It felt wrong. As the day went on, I let it rest and I went along my day. Then after a few hours, I pulled out the paint and just began mixing paint and brushing it on the canvas. God took my brush and I know this because he made my picture so much better than I imagined. You may be thinking I am nuts, but as I look at it, I feel he helped guide me. I know this because as I look at the sun in my picture, I feel the same awe I do when I see the sun glowing in the clouds every night. Some things you just can’t prove. I feel it. Look around you and be inspired.  There is so much in this world to notice. Get off your phone and interact with real people standing before you.  That in itself may awe you! I love you and trust you Jesus!

Ideas implemented.

I was sitting at home really feeling like painting something. I had these ideas floating in my head. My daughter and I headed to the fabric store to find some canvases right away. I already had the paint so I was that much closer to making my vision a reality. The problem with ideas is that most of them we all have are literally gone into the air within 5 seconds of thinking it. Poof! Gone!

I knew that I needed to make a move into the implementation direction. I feel that making myself move, created momentum for other areas of my life too. Sometimes all we need is to make a small, bold move and then we changed the course of our life. A co-worker asked me, “why is it so much easier being unhealthy?” My reply was because we don’t have to force ourselves to switch directions. Being complacent is easy. I don’t want to be that person. What could’ve been, will not take over my head anymore. Create yourself, form yourself, and thrive.

4 words that make a difference.

In this world there are many people. I see so many people standing in elevators and playing games like candy crush on their phone, texting while crossing the street, texting while on a date…….. I have noticed since I have “holstered” my phone, how many people are going through this world not paying attention. I started noticing details like the light posts in downtown St. Paul covered in pole sweaters. Attached to these sweaters are laminated card talking about the person who made them. If I were to text walking down the sidewalk, I would miss this detail and not be able to laugh and think “only in Minnesota!” I would have missed out on the joy of seeing this. I would have missed the woman struggling with the baby to get into a warm building because it was -11 outside and the stroller was stuck on the ice. I would have missed the old woman in the grocery store who was struggling carrying her bag of groceries because her muscles were atrophied. I would have missed the couple who was taking a picture of the ice castle. I would have missed the dog who was walking so excitedly down the street. I would have missed the street vendor handing out a bag of actual roasted chestnuts. I would have missed all of these moments in time that make up a lifetime of memories. The 4 words that change lives are ” may I help you?” We go through this life thinking about ourselves. We fail to notice where we can be significant to others. That significance gives you feelings and feelings are what drive you. We all need hope and love. Most of all, we as humans, need to feel connected. Through the technology we have, I am convinced we are more disconnected than ever. Many people turn to substances to make them feel better when maybe in reality, reaching out and make connections is what they really crave. The old woman I helped in the grocery store, reached out to me to say have a wonderful day. She also thanked me for the help. She seemed surprised to be offered help. Stop and look around you. Life is passing you by.

What you do, does matter….

Cream rises to the top my mom has always said. The saying has always stuck with me. If you want something in life, go for it. Many times we often put a monetary value on whatever it is we do. For instance, a child will ask how much they are going to get paid for a chore around the house. Now that is not a bad thing, because that child is trying to figure out what that chore is worth or how much they are going to get in exchange for their time. As human beings, we want to be valued. We want to know that what we are doing is valuable. However, there is an inherent flaw with that thought process. The flaw is this, we equate the value of the work as our personal value. Our value as a human being is not worth what you make in life monetarily, you are priceless. I have heard it, experienced it, and seen this happen. Get out of that thinking pattern! You are priceless, you are a gift from God. Human beings are the ones who put monetary value on themselves, not God. It has been my experience that once you free yourself from this dangerous thinking, you will truly see yourself in a different light. You will begin to be able to do things you never imagined. You will realize the importance of life. The value of life is far more than we imagine. Why would God give us so many chances if we were worth some pieces of paper or a silly little coin? Our potential is far greater than you can imagine. You will start to see this once you free yourself from small minded thinking. Once you stop allowing yourself to be boxed in the categories many people use to group individuals into. You have such potential but you will never fully get there if you are only interested in the material aspect of this world. You are a soul with a body, not a body with a soul. The choice is yours to make. Are you the cream????

Spring Fever!

Yesterday felt magnificent! I was so in love with the weather! The sun out made me so happy and everyone I saw, I smiled big at! It is amazing what perspective can do. A few days ago it was way below zero. The 24 degrees and sun yesterday felt so incredibly warm. I opened the windows to my truck and enjoyed the breeze. Now, someone who lives in the south may think I am off my rocker, but to the folks up here, it was practically t-shirt weather! In life, we all have different perspectives. We all have different experiences in our lives that shape our perspective. I believe it is important to talk to others, hear their stories, and listen to their perspectives. Hearing the different stories can also influence our perspectives too. We can form our thought process using other people’s experiences and lessons they learned in life. Go out and explore this fabulous world!

I’m glad I did.

I was in my living room last night when a friend of mine called. I was invited to go workout, pass and everything taken care of. I said an immediate “no thank you, I would love to but…..” After the words slipped out of my mouth, I said “wait, I will call you back in 10 minutes and give you an answer if I can find my workout clothes.” She said ok. I am glad I got out of my comfortable house and just showed up. At first I really didn’t want to go because it took effort. My words of wisdom hit me in the face and I followed my own advice. I braved the bitter cold and got my butt to the gym. The first 10 minutes on a machine seemed like it took forever, then I said let’s hit a mile and then we can stop. We hit a mile, went on another machine which went faster. Then we hit the weights. I could barely make it through the first 10 min without wanting to quit and before you know it, we were there for 90 min! It felt great!!! I was so glad we pushed each other. We all need to get uncomfortable and push not only ourselves, but others. It is amazing what happens with a little bit of encouragement. Simple steps of just showing up can be life changing! Most people don’t show up and then they never experience change.

What motivates you?

Many of us need to really be “moved” to be motivated to change the direction of our lives. For some of us, that could be a devastating event and for others, they are just naturally curious. What gets you going? For me, it is the internal drive to improve myself. If I am unsure how to do something or I am unaware of how to do something, I usually research it and try it. Sometimes, I realize I don’t like whatever task I am doing, but I learned something in the process. If we go day in and day out, eating relatively the same food, falling into a similar pattern for the day, and never really looking to learn something new, then we get bored. I used to think I got bored of the job I was doing and then needed to find a new one. I have since realized, it is not the job, it was my life. I needed to grow my soul and cultivate my skills.  I like to shake things up and throw myself a curve ball. Doing that keeps my brain and my body motivated to do more. I know I need more of nature and becoming one with nature. I used to be so distracted by social media and not paying as much attention to who is real in my life. I am happy things have recently become even more clear. I have to say, life in your 40’s is divine.  What gets you motivated?
