What you do, does matter….

Cream rises to the top my mom has always said. The saying has always stuck with me. If you want something in life, go for it. Many times we often put a monetary value on whatever it is we do. For instance, a child will ask how much they are going to get paid for a chore around the house. Now that is not a bad thing, because that child is trying to figure out what that chore is worth or how much they are going to get in exchange for their time. As human beings, we want to be valued. We want to know that what we are doing is valuable. However, there is an inherent flaw with that thought process. The flaw is this, we equate the value of the work as our personal value. Our value as a human being is not worth what you make in life monetarily, you are priceless. I have heard it, experienced it, and seen this happen. Get out of that thinking pattern! You are priceless, you are a gift from God. Human beings are the ones who put monetary value on themselves, not God. It has been my experience that once you free yourself from this dangerous thinking, you will truly see yourself in a different light. You will begin to be able to do things you never imagined. You will realize the importance of life. The value of life is far more than we imagine. Why would God give us so many chances if we were worth some pieces of paper or a silly little coin? Our potential is far greater than you can imagine. You will start to see this once you free yourself from small minded thinking. Once you stop allowing yourself to be boxed in the categories many people use to group individuals into. You have such potential but you will never fully get there if you are only interested in the material aspect of this world. You are a soul with a body, not a body with a soul. The choice is yours to make. Are you the cream????

What motivates you?

Many of us need to really be “moved” to be motivated to change the direction of our lives. For some of us, that could be a devastating event and for others, they are just naturally curious. What gets you going? For me, it is the internal drive to improve myself. If I am unsure how to do something or I am unaware of how to do something, I usually research it and try it. Sometimes, I realize I don’t like whatever task I am doing, but I learned something in the process. If we go day in and day out, eating relatively the same food, falling into a similar pattern for the day, and never really looking to learn something new, then we get bored. I used to think I got bored of the job I was doing and then needed to find a new one. I have since realized, it is not the job, it was my life. I needed to grow my soul and cultivate my skills.  I like to shake things up and throw myself a curve ball. Doing that keeps my brain and my body motivated to do more. I know I need more of nature and becoming one with nature. I used to be so distracted by social media and not paying as much attention to who is real in my life. I am happy things have recently become even more clear. I have to say, life in your 40’s is divine.  What gets you motivated?

If you could, would you?

Let’s pretend money doesn’t exist and you don’t need it to survive. What would you choose to do with your time, talents, or job? Yes, some people out there would say that if they didn’t need money, they would not work. Let’s pretend you don’t need money and you do have to work. What would you choose to do with your time? I would get out there and help others see their potential. I would try to build them up so they could see and recognize their talents. I truly believe that we all have something inside us that will help the world. Many negative things people say about others come from lack of self-worth. We do not benefit by trashing others or spreading lies. It is important to remember that we are in this world going through it at our own pace. It is not a race and we all have something to overcome and recognize. With maturity, comes wisdom. Wisdom comes from experiences that are both good and bad and from listening to others. I love speaking to older folks because they have been through tons and they have some good advice.

What would you do for a career or job if money didn’t matter and why?

What am I most grateful for today?

I am most grateful for my heart. My heart gets me into trouble and I am too trusting but I refuse to give up on thinking most people are not good. I realized I have helped a lot of people in my lifetime and I need to continue doing good for others. I have built up a good network of professional people and friends. I am going to continue volunteering more with my kids. It is important to serve others. I had my time so tied up that I wasn’t making time to serve others. At one point, I had all my kids involved serving the poor on a regular basis. Then I began eating up my own time and not doing good for the community. I see a huge difference in my kids behavior and attitudes when we are serving the poor regularly. I am also grateful for an active creative mind. I am thinking way outside the box on how to make money and be there for my kids. It is not easy but I am confident I can do it. So many other people in this world have been able to make it happen, so can I.

What are you grateful for today? Please tell me in the comments section. I would really love to hear from you!

Jesus is my refuge…..

Today I am grateful for knowing that there is something bigger and more loving. I am grateful for Jesus. I feel comfort knowing I can seek refuge in him. There are evil things and people in this world. We need to crush the darkness with light. Do not fear. I love the Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death (or through the darkest valley), I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Hold your head up and move forward. There are many out there that will say things that aren’t true, twist the stories in their favor, but you will see their true colors. It all comes out. As they try to destroy you, they destroy themselves. The worst thing a person can do is speak and say untrue things. The tongue is the most powerful weapon and words cannot be unsaid. Filter what you hear and remember, there are always two sides to a coin. I think deeply about all the stories in the tabloids. I feel so bad for celebrities. I got a taste of what that feels like and I have a new appreciation for the other side of the coin. You can’t control what others say and do, but you can control how you react to it.  Remember, let Jesus take the wheel.

Fear.

The worst thing a person can do is fear the unknown. Every time in my life I have feared or had a sense of holding back because of the unknown, I had to learn to get past it and move forward. What is the worst that can happen? Not moving is the worst! I am watching a fascinating movie about how McDonald’s got started. I read up on it years ago and happened to stumble upon this movie. This movie got me thinking about so many things. If these guys hadn’t had the confidence and motivation to move forward in spite of their difficulties, it would not be the chain it is today. McDonald’s started as one small drive through and now look at it today. The cap if you will on the brother’s ability was a very efficient drive through. They did not have the ability to expand on their own because of their lack of skills. The brother’s did not have the foresight in seeing a larger picture. We need to listen to the words and skills of those who have experience or maybe even just a crazy mind.  We all have special skills and abilities. Some of us are detail oriented, some of us are creative, and some love spreadsheets. There is a strength and a weakness for everyone. The strength a person has is to find their weakness and hire it out. As a team of people with different strengths pull together, they are unstoppable. I truly believe the key is follow through. A vision needs to be turned into a reality. It is not an easy task. You have what it takes to make it happen. Someone told me I should be a millionaire by now by the way I work. I don’t define success by money. I define success as interpersonal success from growing within. I have a lot of growing to do, lessons to learn, and I have realized that I will never be done. There is not a cap on learning. Never stop improving.

Travel! Travel! Travel! Open your mind!

Ever since I was a young child, I have always pictured myself as a world traveler. Sometimes in life, we take a different route and have other priorities that need to get taken care of first. The older I get, the more I realize that I cannot give up on myself. When I was in Dubai a couple weeks ago, I was at a cricket tournament, it was evening and the moon was out. I took the time to observe the moon. What I discovered immediately was that the moon was lit up differently. As I stared at it, I asked a couple of other people if they noticed how the moon was lit up. No one  really noticed it was different. The moon was lit up from the bottom and not from the left side like I see in Minnesota. I was extremely grateful to God for allowing me to see this. I was grateful that at that point in time, I was somewhere far away from where my world resides. My mind was opened with just this little tiny observation of the moon. I have always known that there is so much in this world to discover. The moon lit differently convinced me there is so much to discover and I need to discover and experience so much more than I realize. We are apart of this huge world. Our small impacts we make are colossal to the people we impact. Keep on traveling and discovering. You never know, the person you may impact the most just may be yourself!
