What motivates you?

Many of us need to really be “moved” to be motivated to change the direction of our lives. For some of us, that could be a devastating event and for others, they are just naturally curious. What gets you going? For me, it is the internal drive to improve myself. If I am unsure how to do something or I am unaware of how to do something, I usually research it and try it. Sometimes, I realize I don’t like whatever task I am doing, but I learned something in the process. If we go day in and day out, eating relatively the same food, falling into a similar pattern for the day, and never really looking to learn something new, then we get bored. I used to think I got bored of the job I was doing and then needed to find a new one. I have since realized, it is not the job, it was my life. I needed to grow my soul and cultivate my skills.  I like to shake things up and throw myself a curve ball. Doing that keeps my brain and my body motivated to do more. I know I need more of nature and becoming one with nature. I used to be so distracted by social media and not paying as much attention to who is real in my life. I am happy things have recently become even more clear. I have to say, life in your 40’s is divine.  What gets you motivated?

Jesus is my refuge…..

Today I am grateful for knowing that there is something bigger and more loving. I am grateful for Jesus. I feel comfort knowing I can seek refuge in him. There are evil things and people in this world. We need to crush the darkness with light. Do not fear. I love the Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death (or through the darkest valley), I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Hold your head up and move forward. There are many out there that will say things that aren’t true, twist the stories in their favor, but you will see their true colors. It all comes out. As they try to destroy you, they destroy themselves. The worst thing a person can do is speak and say untrue things. The tongue is the most powerful weapon and words cannot be unsaid. Filter what you hear and remember, there are always two sides to a coin. I think deeply about all the stories in the tabloids. I feel so bad for celebrities. I got a taste of what that feels like and I have a new appreciation for the other side of the coin. You can’t control what others say and do, but you can control how you react to it.  Remember, let Jesus take the wheel.

The worst thing a person can do is fear the unknown. Every time in my life I have feared or had a sense of holding back because of the unknown, I had to learn to get past it and move forward. What is the worst that can happen? Not moving is the worst! I am watching a fascinating movie about how McDonald’s got started. I read up on it years ago and happened to stumble upon this movie. This movie got me thinking about so many things. If these guys hadn’t had the confidence and motivation to move forward in spite of their difficulties, it would not be the chain it is today. McDonald’s started as one small drive through and now look at it today. The cap if you will on the brother’s ability was a very efficient drive through. They did not have the ability to expand on their own because of their lack of skills. The brother’s did not have the foresight in seeing a larger picture. We need to listen to the words and skills of those who have experience or maybe even just a crazy mind.  We all have special skills and abilities. Some of us are detail oriented, some of us are creative, and some love spreadsheets. There is a strength and a weakness for everyone. The strength a person has is to find their weakness and hire it out. As a team of people with different strengths pull together, they are unstoppable. I truly believe the key is follow through. A vision needs to be turned into a reality. It is not an easy task. You have what it takes to make it happen. Someone told me I should be a millionaire by now by the way I work. I don’t define success by money. I define success as interpersonal success from growing within. I have a lot of growing to do, lessons to learn, and I have realized that I will never be done. There is not a cap on learning. Never stop improving.

Travel! Travel! Travel! Open your mind!

Ever since I was a young child, I have always pictured myself as a world traveler. Sometimes in life, we take a different route and have other priorities that need to get taken care of first. The older I get, the more I realize that I cannot give up on myself. When I was in Dubai a couple weeks ago, I was at a cricket tournament, it was evening and the moon was out. I took the time to observe the moon. What I discovered immediately was that the moon was lit up differently. As I stared at it, I asked a couple of other people if they noticed how the moon was lit up. No one  really noticed it was different. The moon was lit up from the bottom and not from the left side like I see in Minnesota. I was extremely grateful to God for allowing me to see this. I was grateful that at that point in time, I was somewhere far away from where my world resides. My mind was opened with just this little tiny observation of the moon. I have always known that there is so much in this world to discover. The moon lit differently convinced me there is so much to discover and I need to discover and experience so much more than I realize. We are apart of this huge world. Our small impacts we make are colossal to the people we impact. Keep on traveling and discovering. You never know, the person you may impact the most just may be yourself!

Are you a victim?!

I’ve been up all night because where I was it was day. I still haven’t recovered from the traveling time difference. So, anyway, I’m dancing and cleaning listening to up beat music. I keep having these thoughts run through my mind. You are only a victim if you choose to be. No one can take away your strength without you allowing it. Why would you allow someone to bully you through horrible tactics? This can be applied to many areas of life. Stand up! Be brave! Be strong! You got this! There is only strength in hope. The brain is an interesting part of the body. I read through some of my past blogs and it hit me again that I am listening to myself. Say strong and say and think positive things. Think the direction you need to be going in. Don’t look back! Life is full of double edged swords! Only move forward! Here is today’s sunrise picture! Thank you God for letting me see it!!sunrisep

What is the purpose of life?

This is everyone’s million dollar question. I can tell you that we all have a different talent to offer the world. We all have different goals and desires. I was in my car yesterday and I thought about every single person I looked at. Each person has their own triumphs and failures, dilemmas for the day, family, friends, and careers. Each person has questions and needs answers. We are all in this life together. As I thought about this, I felt a huge overwhelming feeling about how complex life is on this Earth. As I ponder what life is about and the purpose of it, I try to break it down to what I have learned so far. Here is a little bit of what I have learned.

Limitations: WE LIMIT ourselves. We put this ceiling on ourselves based on the false reality of how we view ourselves. All of the situations we face everyday shape us into who we are. We either choose to really believe in ourselves or we don’t. If we choose to believe in ourselves, we need to stop setting expectations/ limitations and boxing ourselves into a category. We should allow ourselves to be creative and let these juices flow. Imagine what we can do if we allow ourselves to just be and do? Amazing things come from permission and freedom.

Life is not always fun: Life can be crappy. Let’s face it, not everything that will happen to us is fun. We can be the most positive person in the world and shit storms will happen. It’s life! How we choose to act during these bad times, is what shapes us. The situation is not what defines you. We can’t control others, so stop trying. We should focus on what we can control. We can control how we look at bad situations. We can choose to see only that negative side, or we can be objective and try to see the whole picture. When we choose to be open and see the whole picture, we will feel better. Find the good in a not so fun situation. The solution will present itself. In these situations, we learn who we really are and how strong we are.

EAT THE CAKE!: I mean this literally and figuratively.  I know I have spent more time and energy talking myself out of the joys in life for one reason or another.  You are worth it! Give yourself permission to indulge once in a while. These experiences and feelings of joy are appreciated so much more when you believe you are deserving and worthy. You are beautiful and worth so much more than any valuable object in this life. We are spiritual beings experiencing a human existence. Enjoy the journey!!!!!

GIVE!: Life in my opinion is so much more fun when you are giving and have a servant’s attitude. I don’t mean give and not receive. There are plenty of takers out there, so set your limits. The type of giving I am referring to is the kind where we don’t expect anything in return. If I give a gift to someone expecting a favor in return, I am not truly giving. In order to truly give, we have to give freely. We have to mean it from the depth of our soul. We have to give without the expectation of getting something in return. I remember for many years I would give with the expectation only I was privileged to know.  How did I even expect to feel good? I didn’t feel good. I was always disappointed. I had no clue why I felt the way I did. It took years of disappointment for me to finally realize I had to self-analyze. Maybe some of this comes with age and maturity, eventually, most of us realize this and analyze ourselves. The gift of giving is the gift to ourselves. I love helping others. I truly feel good helping. I never ask, what do I get out of this? I don’t ever think about that anymore. I see someone in need and I respond.

These are some of the things I have learned by going through this life. The purpose of life is different for everyone. There is no definite answer. You have to look at what your passions are, look at what you enjoy, and find the answer deep within you. We can go through this life as a giver or a taker. Truly what we put in we will get out. If you are feeling like you are coming up short, look at what you are putting into life. Focus on good  and positive things. Our souls thrive on hope not on doom. Find the good. See the rainbow!
